Meet Eyo, a 10-year-old girl from Nigeria taken to the UK with promises of a better life. The novel follows her journey around the UK as she’s passed from one ‘guardian’ to another. Eventually, she is rescued, only to realise that in even in freedom, society demands an exacting price from those it should protect.
A contemporary, world literature novel with more than a hint of suspense.
Eyo was nominated for the Commonwealth Writersβ Prize.

Eyo might have been one of the hardest books I’d ever written, but it’s one of my favourites, simply because it’s the one that my fans love the most. And in the end, they are the people that matter.
Eyo is the result of my real-life experiences as a human rights worker. Every single experience Eyo has in the book was based on real-life cases.
When I made the decision to leave the human rights world, I just didn’t want to ‘leave’. I wanted to honour the people and children that I’d met along the way, so that they would know they mattered, that their voices mattered, and most important, that their pain and injustice wasn’t for nothing.
Eyo was my way of doing this.Β
Writing the book was difficult, mostly because I was writing a novel that I wanted people to enjoy. At the same time, I wanted to raise awareness of the trafficking of African children without being ‘preachy’.Β
It took seven drafts, seven years, and a near breakdown, but I’m glad I persevered.
Eyo was nominated for the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize.
